KATZ WITH A K & Muccarelli - The Fixer (Digital)

KATZ WITH A K returns to a stripped back DIY sound on his new LP The Fixer in collaboration with producer Muccarelli. A discordant hip hop fever dream that is frequently an ode to classic gangster movies and tropes. It’s never just one thing with Katz though. A master of blurring personas from one bar to the next, lyrical content effortlessly moves from clearly fictional Sopranos/Goodfellas territory to a street level honesty. The latter deftly phrased via irreverent humour, countless kink references and real experiences of life on the wrong side of the law.

It’s impossible to be sure where the line is on which bits are true and which aren’t. But that’s kind of the point. As a road certified youth that escaped and outgrew the life and didn’t even start making music about it until a decade later… From his first releases Katz has been building a musical universe where real life demons can be exorcized and simultaneously parodied.

On the The Fixer, the sonic landscape provided by Muccarelli on the boards creates a unique setting for the Katz opera to play out over. It’s a strange ride littered with abstract quotables. Fittingly cinematic melodies and a raw approach to production combine perfectly with a lyrical ethos that’s part hip hop, part punk, part fact and part fantasy.
